Permanent import and export of weapons, silencers and ammunition
Imports and exports of weapons, silencers and ammunition must always be reported to Swedish Customs. The provisions depend on whether the importation or exportation takes place within the EU or outside the EU.
Temporary or permanent importation or exportation?
The provisions for import and export of weapons depend on whether the weapons are permanently or temporarily imported or exported. For example:
- Temporary imports or exports may be done for hunting or competition purposes.
- Permanent imports or exports may occur in conjunction with a move to or from Sweden.
What classifies as a weapon?
Weapons are defined in the Weapons Act (1996:67).

Rules for silencers
Silencers are not classified as firearms, but are regulated in much the same way as ammunition. Anyone with a firearms licence may, without special permission, possess silencers that are suitable for their weapon.
