Presenting and storing goods – Import

When importing goods into the EU you are required to submit a pre-arrival declaration to a customs authority. This means that some information about the goods should be submitted before the goods enter the EU.

Goods must always be presented when they arrive in the customs territory of the Union. Temporary storage declarations should at the latest be submitted as the goods arrive, and may be submitted in various forms.

Goods entering the EU customs territory must be transported to a customs office designated by the customs authority or to another place designated or approved by the authority.

Designated locations for imports

Goods that are are imported to the customs territory of the Union, notification must be given at the time of arrival. Once you have presented your goods to the customs authority, the goods are considered to be in temporary storage.

A customs warehouse is a location that has been approved by Swedish Customs, where you can store your or third party's non-Union goods are placed under the customs warehousing procedure.

There are different types of storage facilities for non-Union goods. Use a customs warehouse if you need to store goods for an extended period, or a temporary storage facility or other approved place if you only need to notify the arrival of the goods or store them for a shorter duration.
