Handle your own customs declaration

You can make the active choice to handle your customs declaration yourself. Here we describe step by step how to proceed. Normally, the carrier, such as Postnord, will process your customs declaration, so you do not need to follow the steps on this page.

New rules from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, new rules apply to items worth €150 or less.

The established Swedish amount for €150 is SEK 1 655.30.

Different rules depending on the value of the item

This applies when you shop online and the item is sent from a country outside the EU.

Goods worth €150 or less

  • If you have ordered goods from an online store that has registered with the IOSS (Import One Stop Shop), you cannot handle your customs declaration yourself. This is done by the online store or the carrier.
  • If you have ordered goods from an online store that has not registered with the IOSS, you can choose to handle your customs declaration yourself.

Goods worth more than €150

If you have ordered goods for more than €150, you can choose to handle your customs declaration yourself.

How to declare your own customs declaration

Declare by completing and submitting the form below to Swedish Customs. If you have several different types of goods, you may also need a supplement form. You will need to go to a customs office to submit the form and get help from a customs officier to enter the data into our system.

Keep in mind that there may be charges from the company shipping your parcel for handling your shipment, even if you declare yourself.

Forms and instructions

  1. Information from the carrier

You will need two pieces of information from the carrier in order to complete your customs declaration:

    1. Information about where your shipment is stored.

    2. An image or text file with the contents of the so-called CN22/23 label found on your shipment or equivalent receipt document showing the goods information and value.

  2. Fill in the form

Fill in the form Data for manual customs declarations for imports.

  3. Submit the form

Submit the completed customs declaration to your nearest customs clearance office. You will also need to present proof of purchase (such as a receipt) and a printed copy of the image or text file containing the information on the CN22/23 label or equivalent receipt document showing the goods information and value.

Once Swedish Customs has received and reviewed your customs declaration, you must pay customs duty, VAT and possibly other taxes. You pay at the customs clearance office.

Once you have paid, you will receive a bill of release from the customs clearance office showing that the shipment may be released to you.

  4. Show the bill of release

Show the bill of release to the carrier. They need to see it in order to send the item to you, either directly to your home or to your usual delivery point.
