Permanent import and export of weapons, silencers and ammunition
Imports and exports of weapons, silencers and ammunition must always be reported to Swedish Customs. The provisions depend on whether the importation or exportation takes place within the EU or outside the EU.
What classifies as a weapon?
Weapons are defined in the Weapons Act (1996:67).

Silencers are not classified as firearms, but are regulated in much the same way as ammunition. Anyone with a firearms licence may, without special permission, possess silencers that are suitable for their weapon.

Notifying Swedish Customs
You or your carrier are advised to notify Swedish Customs in advance.
- Notify Swedish Customs at least 24 hours before taking weapons, silencers and ammunition across the border. Please complete the forms below.

The weapon is transported by a carrier
You are responsible for ensuring that the carrier presents your goods, together with any applicable authorisations and forms, to Swedish Customs at the border.
You transport your weapon yourself
You need to present the following to Swedish Customs at the border:
- The “Details of importation or exportation of firearms and ammunition for a purpose other than temporary hunting or competition” form (original copy)
- A permit from the Swedish Police Authority
- The carried weapons, silencers and ammunition.
We will verify that the information corresponds to the carried goods and your permit from the Swedish Police Authority.

The country to or from which you travel may place import or export restrictions on weapons, silencers and ammunition. Please contact the relevant embassy or competent authority.
To or from a country outside the EU
Applying for a permit
A permit from the Swedish Police Authority or the Inspectorate of Strategic Products is required.

You are responsible for ensuring that the carrier presents your goods, together with any applicable authorisations and forms, to Swedish Customs at the border.
You transport your weapon yourself
You need to present the following to Swedish Customs at the border:
- The Single Administrative Document form (SAD)
- The “Details of importation or exportation of firearms and ammunition for a purpose other than temporary hunting or competition” form (original copy)
- Permit
- Import to Sweden: Weapon licence issued by the Swedish Police Authority
- Export from Sweden: Authorisation from the Inspectorate for Strategic Products (ISP)
- Import to Sweden: Weapon licence issued by the Swedish Police Authority
- The carried weapons, silencers and ammunition.
