Handle your own customs declaration
You can make the active choice to handle your customs declaration yourself. Here we describe step by step how to proceed. Normally, Postnord or another carrier will process your customs declaration, so you do not need to follow the steps on this page.
Can I declare my goods myself?
If you, as a private individual, have received a notice of arrival for a product sent from a country outside the EU, you can choose to handle your declaration yourself. You do this by completing and submitting a manual declaration form to Swedish Customs. You will need to go to a customs office to submit the form and get help from a customs official to enter the data into our import system.
Keep in mind that there may be charges from the company shipping your parcel for handling your shipment, even if you declare yourself.

Once Swedish Customs has received and reviewed your customs declaration, you must pay VAT. You can pay at the customs clearance office by card or cash. We accept most bank cards, except American Express and Diners.
Once you have paid VAT, you will receive a bill of release from the customs clearance office showing that the shipment may be released to you.
- Show the bill of release to Postnord, who need to see it in order to send the item to you, either directly to your home or to your usual delivery point.
Would you like Postnord to make the customs declaration for you?
If you have received a parcel on which you have to pay charges, the company that carried your parcel can make the customs declaration for you. On Postnord’s website, you will find information on the rules about receiving a parcel from another country and how you pay charges when, for example, you have bought something online from a country outside the EU.
