Endangered animals and plants
Crossing Sweden’s border with endangered animals and plants (and products made from such animals and plants) is prohibited without special authorisation.
This is regulated in a convention on international trade in endangered species – the Washington Convention, also known as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The convention is an international agreement between countries. It aims to save certain species of animals and plants from extinction.
Anyone found guilty of breaching the rules may be fined or imprisoned.
