Presenting your goods to Swedish Customs

If you are bringing goods with you in addition to those you are allowed to bring freely, or if you have goods subject to special rules, you must declare them to Swedish Customs when you cross the Swedish border. Some goods can be declared online.

Select the red channel to declare goods

Select the red channel marked 'Goods to declare’ at the border. Present your goods to the customs officer.
If there is no surveillance area you can approach a customs officer to declare your goods. Always choose the red channel if you are unsure whether you are carrying goods that must be declared.

No customs officer present?

If there is no customs officer on site, you can report your goods in one of the following ways:

Use the telephone located in the red channel at customs.

Call the telephone number indicated on a poster in the red channel in the surveillance area.

Proceed to the nearest customs office.

If you are unable to choose the red channel, for example if you are travelling on a direct train between Denmark and Sweden, please approach a uniformed customs officer on the train. If you do not find a uniformed customs officer on the train, call Swedish Customs’ Command Centre.

Declaring online

If you are travelling with a dog or cat, or travelling with weapons, silencers, ammunition or cash, you can in some cases register with Swedish Customs online before you travel. This means that you can then select the green channel at the border. In the event of a check, you must be able to show the number you received when you registered online.

Choose green or blue file if you do not have goods to report

When you cross the border without goods to declare, choose the green lane marked ‘Nothing to declare’. In the blue channel, the sign has an EU symbol and the text ‘Travelling directly from an EU country with no goods to declare’.

You may be inspected

Swedish Customs may verify that you have fulfilled your obligation to declare by asking you to stop, asking you a few questions, and then checking your luggage or vehicle. If necessary, the customs officer has the authority to conduct a body search.

Choosing the green or blue channel while carrying goods in excess of the allowances constitutes smuggling.
