Paying fees retroactively

If you have purchased an item online but have not paid customs duty or VAT, please notify us and we will help you calculate what you owe and send you an invoice.

If you notice on your receipt or invoice that you have not paid VAT, you should notify us. This also applies if you have paid too little. We will help you work out what you should pay and send you an invoice.

The same applies, regardless of who transported your goods.

If you have bought a product online from a non-EU country via Shein or Temu, for example, you must always pay VAT on that product. Also remember that you need to pay customs duty for goods worth over SEK 1,800.

Procedure

Submit the following information to Swedish Customs by e-mail or regular mail:

  • The company carrying your goods
  • The price of the goods
  • Customs identifier (Customs ID MRN or LRN code) – only required in cases with a customs declaration
  • Shipping and insurance costs, where applicable

This information can be found on receipts and invoices. Please submit these by e-mail or regular mail.

You can notify Swedish Customs that the customs duty and VAT have not been paid within three years from the date your goods entered Sweden.
