Fees when shopping while travelling

When you bring goods into Sweden from another country, you may have to pay charges depending on what you buy and whether you bring the goods from a country inside or outside the EU.

This page does not apply to products subject to excise duty, such as alcohol and tobacco.

From another EU country

You are not liable to pay customs duties when you bring goods into Sweden from an EU country. In most cases you are also not required to pay VAT.

From Åland or the Canary Islands

Åland and the Canary Islands belong to the EU but are outside the EU fiscal territory.
Fees to be paid if you have shopped in these areas:

  • Customs: no
  • Tax: yes
under the same rules as if you were travelling from a non-EU country.

From a country outside the EU

You may have to pay customs duty and tax when you buy goods that you take home from your trip in a country outside the EU.

The limits on how much you can take with you to Sweden without paying customs duties and taxes are different depending on how you travel. However, you must always transport the goods personally and not resell them.
