Types of customs declarations for export

Export declarations should always be submitted in digital form. Normally, a standard customs declaration is used, but there are other options.

Goods for exportation can be declared in four ways:

  • Standard customs declarations with simultaneous declaration of the goods;
  • Standard customs declarations where the exportation is initiated from an export customs office;
  • Customs declaration via an entry the declarant’s records;
  • Simplified export declaration.

Find out more about each declaration and determine which method is most suitable for your needs. The letters within brackets represent the code for the digital message for submitting the declaration to Swedish Customs.

Standard customs declarations with simultaneous declaration of the goods (UGE)

Under some circumstances, you may declare goods for export in a standard customs declaration, while simultaneously presenting them for export from an approved site of exportation. The benefit of this is that you do not need to travel to a customs office to declare your goods for export.

Standard customs declarations where the export is initiated from an customs office of export (UNU)

When submitting a standard customs declaration using the UMU message, you should first submit a customs declaration and subsequently present your goods for exportation at an exit customs office, thus allowing Swedish Customs to authorise the exportation.

Customs declaration via entry in the declarant's records (ALE)

You may apply to declare your goods via entry in the declarant’s records. You must then present the goods to Swedish Customs to declare them for free circulation. Submit a customs declaration to Swedish Customs at a later stage, using a supplementary declaration.

Simplified export declaration (ALE)

You may apply to use a simplified declaration when committing goods to a customs procedure. This means that you submit less information about your shipment during the first step, than you would in a standard customs declaration. The remaining information is subsequently provided in a supplementary customs declaration.
