Car, selling to a country outside the EU

You must cancel your car´s registration and submit an export declaration to Swedish Customs. If you are exporting your car as a private individual, we can provide assistance in completing the export declaration.
For more information on registration cancellation, contact the Swedish Transport Agency.

Private export
You will not receive duty or tax back from us when you export your car. However, you may purchase it as a tax-exempt car, but you must contact a car dealer to do so. The car must not have been previously registered. Cars that will be used outside the EU must be declared for export. The seller is to submit the export declaration to Swedish Customs.

If you are purchasing a tax-exempt car, you will need temporary registration plates. You may apply for these with the Swedish Transport Agency, and they are valid for 1 year. The application form can be found on their website.

For car dealers
It is somewhat more complicated for car dealers wishing to sell their car as tax-exempt export car. Contact the Swedish Tax Agency for information on tax-exempt sales. If the car is to be used outside the EU, the seller must submit a customs declaration for export.
