Car, bought from another EU country

Because the EU is a customs union, the importation of a vehicle from another EU country is not a customs issue. It may, however, be a tax issue.

If you buy a vehicle as a private person in another EU country and the vehicle is considered to be new according to Swedish tax regulations, it will be necessary in some cases to pay VAT in Sweden. The registration form and information on these regulations are provided by the Swedish Tax Agency.
