Cooperation within Sweden

Swedish Customs is part of the community and works closely with private enterprise and other authorities in Sweden and abroad. Leveraging the expertise, contact networks and experiences of other organisations helps us continuously improve and deliver a better performance in our common goal of combating customs crimes.
At national level, Swedish Customs works closely with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, Swedish Tax Agency, National Food Administration, National Board of Trade, chambers of commerce and others. As a border authority, Swedish Customs is mandated to check that documentation required by other authorities is genuine and in order when crossing the border, for instance if someone wishes to bring a dog into Sweden or when a company is importing food.

Our aim is for companies and private persons to be able to deal with their customs related business all at once without having to contact several authorities. Swedish Customs also works closely with trading companies, forwarders, agents, shippers and others involved in trade with countries outside the EU. Between us, we aim to simplify the processes associated with customs procedures and make them more efficient. For example, the customs system The Stairway has been developed by Swedish Customs in cooperation with private enterprise and trade organisations.

Within the ‘Cooperation against Customs related crime´ scheme (SMT) we sign agreements with companies with the aim of preventing customs crimes. As part of this agreement, we provide companies with information on how they can avoid their goods flow being exploited for criminal activity, such as smuggling. This helps companies spot risks and tip us off about suspicious activities.

Swedish Customs also works closely with other crime fighting authorities such as the Swedish Police, Coast Guard, Tax Agency, Prosecution Authority and the Swedish National Economic Crimes Bureau, at both operational and strategic level to combat crime effectively.
